The
SITE Program in Lombardy
The Study, Intercultural Training and Experience (SITE) Internship Program for English Teaching Assistant in the Schools of Lombardy is a linguistic and cultural exchange opportunity for students who recently graduated (within the past 18 months) or are currently attending graduate courses, to work as an English-speaking academic assistant in Italy’s Lombardy region high schools. The program is the result of the cooperation
between the Dickinson
College – Pennsylvania- which coordinates a network of about 40 US universities and the Luca Pacioli
High school – Crema-
which coordinates a network of about 40 schools in Lombardy. This cooperation is strongly supported by the
General Consulates of Italy in the US and made
possible thanks to the active role of the Education Office of Lombardy -foreign languages and culture- and the authorities of the Region of
Lombardy.
SITE is an unique opportunity
for better understanding of the Italian Language
and culture while gaining valuable teaching experience. The program, spanning from 3-8 months, is an ideal position for flexible, adventurous candidates as their “assistance” is based on their native linguistic capacity and tasks can range from direct teaching hours, to preparing projects that institutions find relevant for academic purposes. An ideal candidate has pursued Italian language and culture as a major or minor field of study and has some language proficiency, as the position of Academic Teaching Assistant is ideal for better understanding of the Italian Language and culture. On a weekly basis, selected candidates will be required to instruct/aid 12 hours in English, and are expected to pursue an additional 13 hours of related activities. Since the assistant is expected to carry on her/his duties independently, it is of vital importance that the selected candidate has excellent communication skills, flexibility, independence, self-training and self-study skills, and willingness and ability to step out of her/his comfort zone. Assistants will be compensated a monthly stipend of 700 euros.
